The “Winged Fist” was the logo that adorned the jersey of NYC’s famed Irish American Athletic Club. The Winged Fists of NYC were known for embracing runners of all races and religions and for winning medals. In fact, by the time the first Flying Finn (Hannes Kohlemainen) joined them, the club had already produced America’s first African American Olympic gold medal winner in John Taylor. The club would go on to accept Jewish and Italian runners who would win for America or their country of birth.
Karhu, as a company, is a collective effort of a dedicated and passionate group of employees located throughout the world. In accordance with our “Winged Fists” initiative, Karhu recently started to work with some educational partners to fund the college tuition and work experience of economically challenged students. Through financial grants and one-on-one interactions with these students, Karhu is dedicated to their success every step of the way. Our current educational partners are Cristo Rey High School and Lasell University of Boston, MA.
